Colleen Kula Hopkins, LCPC

Co-founder and Psychotherapist

Colleen is an accomplished Licensed Clinical Therapist, holding a Clinical Psychology Master’s Degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She also graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
 
Beginning her journey at the Child Development Lab in Champaign, Illinois, Colleen’s path led to a leading residential behavioral health treatment center in the US. Over a decade, she assumed diverse roles, including CEO, prioritizing evidence-based treatment and specialized care for critical moments. Her extensive experience nationwide enriches her practice.
 
Active in professional associations like IAEDP and ANAD, Colleen also serves on NAMI Chicago’s board. She’s a fervent advocate for innovative, effective treatment, understanding the depth of mental illness. Her achievements span prior CEO roles, consulting, and adeptly fostering growth across 11 years.
 
Colleen, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, has vast experience treating eating disorders, addiction, anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders. Her goal-oriented approach reflects her passion for unlocking human potential.

Emily Derkin, LCPC

Co-founder and Psychotherapist

Emily is a seasoned Psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Eastern University (2009) and a dual Bachelor’s in Psychology and Therapeutic Recreation from Houghton College. 
 

Emily provides compassionate, integrative, and person-focused counseling to help individuals work through challenging issues, gain clarity, and foster personal growth and change. She believes that everyone has the inner resources to lead fulfilling lives, and her aim is to assist people in accessing their strengths, gifts, and talents. Regardless of the specific issue, each person is unique and deserves the opportunity to explore their identity and aspirations. 


Emily’s training and experience has largely revolved around treating co-occurring eating disorders, addictive disorders, trauma, and mood disorders. She has learned that addressing immediate problems often leads to the revelation of underlying issues. It is essential to explore and address all aspects in order to achieve true healing. 

 

Seeking therapy is a significant step towards initiating positive change, and Emily aims to honor that commitment. Whether you have previous experience with therapy and treatment or are considering it for the first time, she strives to create a comfortable and open environment for you.

Alex Spooner, LPC

Psychotherapist

Alex believes that therapy is a collaborative space between clinician and client, in which everyone requires a different treatment and approach. She works hard to offer a space where clients can feel safe and supported through their exploration of self. With transparency, humor, and acceptance, she supports clients toward healing and empowerment. She is passionate about redefining sex and intimacy, acknowledging systems that cause harm, and helping clients to reconnect with self.

She practices from a person-centered and relational approach, applying an anti-oppressive, attachment, and trauma-informed lens. Her primary focus areas are sex and intimacy, relationships, trauma, anxiety, and identity. She specializes working with adults, elders, couples, and those who hold marginalized identities. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in Counseling Practice from Roosevelt University here in Chicago. She brings experience from the community mental health sector, where she provided therapy and crisis intervention services for adults, couples, groups, and elders.

Brent Showalter, LPC Psychotherapist

Brent envisions therapy as a space for healing, where we develop deeper self-understanding and discover new ways to relate to ourselves and others. Specializing in relational approaches, Brent meets each client where they are, fostering personal insights about where, why, and how old patterns show up. Through this collaborative journey of self-exploration, clients identify and practice effective strategies to resolve both internal and external conflicts.
 
Guided by innate curiosity, Brent can connect with people from all walks of life to help them lead more fulfilling lives by recognizing and realizing the inner potential for change. He has a particular interest in supporting queer folks and spiritual seekers. Influenced by Buddhism and mindfulness practices, Brent guides clients to ground themselves in the present moment, connect with their strengths, and gain clarity.
 
Before becoming a therapist, Brent worked as a researcher and data analyst to support public education. He holds Master’s Degrees in Organizational Psychology from Illinois State University and Community Counseling from Loyola University Chicago.

Tori Hairston, MA

Psychotherapist

Tori is a compassionate, trauma-informed therapist who holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Park University. She desires to walk alongside clients on their road to freedom through mental health healing. She provides a safe space to witness her client’s innermost thoughts, feelings, and emotions while honoring them compassionately and without judgment. She believes the therapeutic journey will lead one to heal one’s childhood and relationship wounds, break free from old behavioral patterns or thought loops, explore identity, navigate life transitions, and restore hope.

As Tori specializes in complex trauma and grief, she focuses on holding space for all emotions while identifying the source of the issues that may manifest as behavioral, emotional, or physiological symptoms. While taking an integrative approach, she provides therapy and psycho-education to capture the whole person (mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually). This approach includes a comprehensive use of: Internal Family Systems, Emotions-Focused Therapy, Biblical Counseling (upon request), Bodywork, elements of Neuropsychology, and other therapies for holistic healing.
